Mike,

24MB isn't much these days. I'm guessing you could upload few map segments in your area, but maybe someone who has Topo 24K could comment on how big each segment is (both coverage area and size in MB).

I saw the DVD Southwest product in Summit Hut here in Tucson this week. Checking the Garmin website confirms it is compatible with all three of my GPS units. 60CSx, Etrex Vista, Nuvi 650. With 4 states at 24,000:1 this is the best deal out there right now!

I'm just disappointed that the ship date for this product keeps slipping. REI is often an early recipient of new Garmin stuff - so I keep checking there (online, in person) - hoping it would land in time to use my dividend and 20% off. Alas - doesn't look like it's going to make it. The Garmin website doesn't have any specific detail (It's been saying "Usually ships in 2-3 weeks" since I first discovered the item) - and I really want this DVD that covers CA/NV/OR/WA, rather than, say, just CA/NV on a card - the DVD is much more useful, not to mention a bargain. Still waiting...

I just got off the phone with Garmin and they let me know that they are expecting this product into their warehouses on March 26, 2009. The representative stated that it should ship within days of receipt by their warehouses.

P.S. No info on when BaseCamp will be available for download...

I called Garmin and they confirmed that they are not in stock yet, but they are expected to be shipping at the end of the month although the person I spoke did not sound 100% confident of this... The original Garmin press release mentions that it will ship by the end of the first quarter which translates into roughly the end of March 2009.

We will have to be patient...

By the way, I wonder if pre-ordering makes sense...
