Garmin Oregon 450 and 450t Appear Online
Updated 11/7/09: Here’s a price list from Garmin Spain which includes a new reference to the Oregon 450 and 450t.

Several days ago we tweeted about a Spanish retailer that posted a Garmin Oregon 450t product page on their site. At first glance I figured it was just a typo, but after translating the page (see image above) I decided that what I saw would make sense as a replacement for the Oregon 300 and 400t. The specifications on the now vaporized page looked identical to the Oregon 400t European version except the unit has a 3-axis compass similar to the Dakota and Oregon 550t (there’s also mention of a temperature sensor, but that probably IS a typo). Garmin is probably worried about Oregon 300/400 sales once the Dakota’s start dropping in price a little more. Since the 3-axis compass is available on the the Dakota but not on the Oregon x00 series, that gives customers one more reason to pick the lower priced option.
As further evidence of this new product I found product pages at REI for the Garmin Oregon 450 and 450t. These pages have no pictures or details but their mere existence seems to suggest that the folks at Garmin might be gearing up for a pre-holiday release. It’ll be interesting to see what will become of the Oregon 400i and 400c.

I’m guessing the big news might not be the 450/450t, but instead the price reductions we could see on the Oregon 300/400 leading up to Black Monday. Keep your eyes peeled for deals especially if Garmin makes an announcement before then. Join the Oregon 450 discussion on the Oregon Wiki.

I’ve been informed that the new Oregon 450 and 450T are new units with an improved and more readable screen
Garmin has acknowledge that the Colorado 300, and the Oregon 300 and the 400T have a poor quality screen that they improved in the 550 and 550T series. And this is why they have discontinued these units
And from now on, they seem that a new screen is coming in these units, besides the 3D compass..

Thanks for the update. It looks like Garmin is holding off on these two units until after the holidays. I wonder if the 450/450t will have the same screen as the 550/550t or something better? Honestly, the 550/550t visibility is probably only about 10-15% better than the 300/400. The only difference between the two is the protective plastic cover (the part you touch) over the screen itself. The x50 and x00 screen is identical.
