Garmin Oregon 2.93 Beta Available
Garmin has made a new beta software available for the Oregon. Garmin’s web site lists the following improvements in beta 2.93 (GPS 2.70):
- Improved GPS reception
- Improved connection reliability with Spanner
- Fixed GB Discoverer map not displaying while zooming (introduced in 2.86 beta)
- Fixed roads not showing on maps with satellite imagery (introduced in 2.86 beta)
- Fixed map with no DEM data drawing with a gray background (introduced in 2.86 beta)
I have loaded the software, verified that the upgrade works properly and that the unit can lock and navigate after the upgrade. The GPS software version has changed so it seems like Garmin is still trying to tune GPS performance after the issues with the 2.86 beta. Let us know if you see any issues by posting here or on the Oregon wiki discussion thread.
Garmin is asking people to report issues in the beta software to OregonBeta@garmin.com .

The above link is for the Oregon 300. By rummaging through the entire update page http://www8.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp, you can find updates for every flavor of Oregon. It may be the same file, but I preferred updating with the one for my 400i.

Improved reception:
I am in my shack, in the basement of my house facing a concrete block wall, and 8 feet + of dirt and lawn, in a place where my 60CSx never had acquisition, nor my Oregon, under 2.86beta, and now, my Oregon 400i has had a lock for the last two hours since I’ve updated to 2.93beta. So I’d definitely say there is an improvement here… The 60CSx, which I turned on, has no lock!

The 2.93 beta version is the only code I have found that allows the WAAS setting to get a “D” lockon (I live in the UK). Appears more accurate that the earlier beta code I have tried

Installed 2.93 beta and it would not read in my .GPX files from geocaching.com. Has anyone else found this?
Reinstalled 2.85 and they are back again.
