Garmin Oregon 2.6 update recommended
After almost a week of testing Oregon Software 2.6/GPS Software 2.55 I have made most of the necessary updates to the Oregon wiki. The software update fixed all of the issues claimed by Garmin’s release notes; the freeze at start-up was the major bug that was resolved. I haven’t heard of any new reports of this issue once users upgrade to 2.6. Another related issue which seems fixed is the extremely long mass storage connect times. I was experiencing 2-4 minutes connect times but after the upgrade it seems be less than 30 seconds which is faster than the Colorado.
Garmin has introduced at least three new bugs with 2.6:
- Configuration settings for tracklog visibility on the map are not saved per profile
- Configuration settings for some of the advanced map configuration (ie. zoom level) are not saved per profile.
- When the user enters coordinates in demo mode the unit shuts off
All of these are captured in the Issues List. If you’ve seen other issues let me know or feel free to make your updates to the wiki.
Given the benefits of the fix for the startup freeze and new coordinate entry screen as compared to the relatively minor issues above, I am recommending that all Oregon users upgrade to Software 2.6.
See the wiki Versions page for a history of Oregon software including this update.
