The long wait for Colorado owners who have been hoping for fixes and new features might be over.  Garmin has released a modest beta release, 2.92, the first new software for the unit in any form since 2.90 was released in early December.   The new beta release addresses seven or eight issues and adds one new feature, the custom power-on text message which was recently made available to Oregon owners.  I’m happy to see Garmin rolling out new code for the Colorado, but have to wonder will this be a one-off beta or will we see more functions like Track Manager and Waypoint Averaging brought over from the Oregon.   My guess: unlikely.

List of changes from Garmin:

  • Added customizable text to unit power-on screen (see \Garmin\startup.txt)
  • Improved power on reliability
  • Improved connection reliability with Spanner
  • Improved appearance of depth data field when using big numbers
  • Fixed some scan points not working properly with Garmin GB Discoverer maps
  • Fixed issue with Garmin GB Discover maps not showing at some zoom levels with detail set to least
  • Fixed errors in user grid entry
  • Fixed the time label of the graph in Elevation Plot
  • Fixed selection of Leap Day on Calendar, Hunt & Fish and Sun & Moon pages

Garmin has also set up a special email address, ColoradoBeta@garmin.com , to report issues associated with this beta software.

I’m off to verify whether the “power up stability improvements” have to do with the crash seen at power up if you power the unit off with an active autoroute.  Update:  This issue does not seem to be addressed in 2.92.
